CATHEDRAL OF THE ASSUMPTION
The Cathedral of the Assumption is a significant architectural landmark in downtown Louisville, KY. The Cathedral complex contains three existing buildings and is surrounded by several outdoor spaces. The scope of the project included the renovation of the sanctuary, the old parish school and rectory, as well as consideration of a new building to house the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, museum, offices, kitchen and dining facility.
Under the leadership of David Allen (Potter & Cox Architects), this five-year project was awarded the 1997 National American Institute of Architects’ Religious Architecture Design Award, the 1995 Kentucky Society of Architects’ Citation for Design Excellence, and the 1995 Ida Lee Willis Memorial Award.
