The master facility plan and implementation project includes a major building addition of 100,000 square feet, a parking structure of another 120,000 square feet, and the renovation of another 100,000 square feet of space.

Norton Audubon Hospital was constructed in the late 1970's and opened in the early 1980's as the flagship hospital for Humana, Inc. The hospital offered a full service line but specialized in cardiovascular services. The goal of the master facility plan project is to enhance and modernize the facility to the high level of acute services provided, provide new clinical efficiencies,  provide more private patient beds, expand emergency services, expand surgical services, and provide for an overall improved patient experience.

Enhancements include:

New ICU / OHU

New Cardiac Transitional Care Unit

Expanded ED

Expanded Cath Lab Pre/Post

Expanded public concourse

Updated Laboratory

Expanded Surgical Services (3 new open heart OR's, 1 hybrid room)

Expanded Pre/Post Surgical Space and re-oriented public vs private space

Creation of a clinical decision unit.

Renovated patient rooms

Modernization of finishes throughout the facility

Renovation of the exterior building envelope

Renovation of the central utility plan to implement Trane efficiency system

The design was organized so that the hospital functions remained in operation throughout the entire construction duration.  LMH worked closely with the facility administrators and the selected contractor to coordinate the necessary sequencing to accomplish this.
